It would be reasonable to assume that the estate agent selling your home will be promoting your property on Rightmove and Zoopla.  After all, why wouldn’t they be?  We’re guessing you wouldn’t be too happy if you found out they weren’t.

It’s worth knowing that some agents have chosen to work with new kid on the block, OnTheMarket.com, a recently launched portal site that insists that agents subscribing with them must agree to ditch either Zoopla or Rightmove.

And the reason agents might consider switching to OnTheMarket.com and ditching Zoopla or Rightmove?  Well, it just happens to be a whole lot cheaper for agents to subscribe to OnTheMarket than to the proven market leaders, Zoopla and Rightmove.

Perhaps your agent has tried to convince you (and themselves) that potential buyers are unlikely to search Zoopla without also searching Rightmove (and vice versa), rendering one of the two redundant?  The reality is, that Estate Agents subscribing to OnTheMarket and ditching Zoopla or Rightmove, are taking a big risk with your chances of selling your property.

Independent research has revealed that a remarkable 93.8% of email leads sent to estate agents were unique to either Zoopla or Rightmove, and, closer to home, research by Guardian Money showed that OnTheMarket is virtually invisible in some areas of Greater Manchester.

Our own research backs this up.  For every two buyer enquiries we receive from Zoopla, we receive three from Rightmove, showing that most house hunters are using Zoopla or Rightmove to search for their new home.  Crucially, your home could be losing thousands of potential views if your agent has unsubscribed from either.

If you are already trying to sell your property with an Estate Agent, or are thinking of selling, your agent’s priority should be selling your property, not cutting their costs.
