A present from Father Christmas is every child’s Christmas wish, but for some families, presents are a luxury they just can’t afford.
We decided to spread some Christmas joy to children across South Manchester and Tameside by teaming up with local children’s charity, Wood Street Mission, to collect as many presents as possible for local children who wouldn’t usually wake up to a gift on Christmas morning.
We used our 11 branch network as drop off points for gifts, non-perishable food and monetary donations and held a variety of fundraising activities such as bake sales, games and competitions.
We managed to raise over 200 gifts and £636 which was kindly donated by customers, businesses, employees and other members of the local community.
We’ve raised £491 and over 200 presents for @WoodSt_Mission‘s #Christmas Appeal! 🎁 Thank you to everyone who has donated, your kindness and generosity has been amazing. 🎅 #charity @EntertainerToys @TheBodyShop @HuffysBar @robbiesbrewery @preenyourself @DaVincis_coffee pic.twitter.com/z6dXhH43qp

Peter Barlow, Managing Director of Edward Mellor estate agents says “The kindness and generosity from everyone has been truly amazing. This is what Christmas is all about, bringing magical moments to children of all ages. Wood Street Mission is a fantastic charity that makes a real difference here in Manchester to the lives of so many children, so we’re honoured to have been able to help in any way that we can.”
Wood Street Mission don’t just support local families over Christmas, they operate all year, every year. They help alleviate the effects of poverty on local children and their families by providing everyday items, practical help and services.
This morning saw 54 families come through our door for food, clothing and other essentials. Our volunteers work tirelessly to help them and once our door is closed they’re busy restocking the shelves! What a team 👏🏻 pic.twitter.com/tFjiQXlccY
