Trussell Trust Food Bank

Community Support from Edward Mellor

2020 has certainly been a very challenging year for many of us. Christmas is just around the corner and it will continue to be more stressful than usual for many. With more people than usual facing poverty and unsure as to how they will afford Christmas, we as a business will be supporting local food bank charities to help to try and make Christmas a little easier.

As a business Edward Mellor is very supportive of local charities and this year we will be supporting local food banks, The Trussell Trust along with Magpies Nest, The Cherry Tree, Silklife and Glossop Dale Foodbank.

Food Bank Support

Over 90% of the food distributed by foodbanks is donated by the public and that is why food donations are vital. Without the goodwill of others, food banks would not be available and so we would like to encourage our customers, clients, and staff to add a couple of extra items to your shopping lists over the coming weeks. Every little item helps and do remember that food banks will also accept essential non-food items such as toiletries and hygiene products, every little item will help.

What is in a Food Parcel?

A typical food parcel will contain three days’ worth of food which is nutritional and will be suitable for individuals and families.

For example, a parcel would contain cereal, soup, pasta, rice, tinned tomatoes or pasta sauce, lentils, beans, pulses, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, tea/coffee, biscuits, UHT milk, fruit juice. Non-food items could be baby supplies, facemasks and hand sanitiser, toiletries, and household cleaning items.

Ways to Donate

For us to be able to help the food banks in our local Edward Mellor Branch areas we have organised for the below branches to be designated drop off points. We would like for anyone dropping a donation to our branches to adhere to current COVID guidelines to keep yourself and our staff within the branches safe. All items will be then placed into isolation for 72 hours before being boxed and transported to the local food banks we are working with to support.

If you would like to make a food donation you can bring food and non-food items to any of the Edward Mellor branches listed below. Please click on the branches for their address details.

If you would like to know more about how food banks work, become a volunteer, or simply stay in touch we have included the links above to the food bank charities that we are working with.

In advance of your kind donations, we would like to thank you for your kindness and support at this very difficult time for many people across the area. We will keep you updated on news and messages that we receive from the charities via our social media channels
