Former Indian Restaurant, The Kushoom Koly, Set to go under the Hammer

The site of Heaton Moor’s much-loved former Indian Restaurant, The Kushoom Koly, is going under the hammer in March.

The building that housed one of Stockport’s longest-established and best-loved curry houses is set to be sold at auction next month.

Edward Mellor Auction will sell this iconic commercial property at their March auction taking place on the 18th at The Sheridan Suite (M40 8RR).

The building has been the home of the famous Kushoom Koly in Heaton Moor since 1971.

Known to residents as ‘The Kush’, the famous local landmark was described as “a cornerstone of the Heaton Moor community” by customers.

The family-run business sadly closed 12 months ago after the tragic death of the owner, Faruk Uddin’s son.

Their reputation for exceptional food and warm welcomes from Faruk and his brothers Sami and Abbo, made the restaurant one of Stockport’s most popular, loved places amongst locals and celebrities.

Buyers rarely get the opportunity to own a building that has had such a loyal following of customers – which is why this lot is so special.

One individual has the chance to step into a premise close to the hearts of the local community and reignite the passion the previous owners demonstrated over the past 49 years.

Whilst the existing use is a truly exciting proposition, the building and site are also considered suitable for a change of use and development.

The Property

The site is set to be sold with vacant possession and has great potential for a variety of other uses. (STP)

Currently, there are ongoing discussions with Stockport MBC to redevelop the site into 8 apartments with commercial units below.

Inside the premises, there is fantastic accommodation set over four floors which includes large cellars, living accommodation and office space.

Edward Mellor Auctioneer, Nick Green, commented:

“We rarely see buildings come to the market with such heritage and potential. We expect a large number of buyers to come forward at the guide price of £400,000 at our March auction”.
