The most popular day to move this year has been revealed

…and it’s sooner than you might think!

New research from HomeOwners Alliance has revealed that, for the last 12 years, August has been the most popular month to move home.

Using this data, they’ve managed to predict the busiest time for UK home movers this year – even down to the exact date.

Apparently, the busiest moving day for Brits this year will be Friday, August 30th.

Based on figures from the English Housing Survey, there were 625,000 owner occupier movers in England in 2016-2017. This translates to approximately 1,700 moves per day!

On the most popular day of the year, 3.8 times this level (6,500 moves) are expected.

Looking at the most popular month and days to move, HomeOwners Alliance estimates 75,000 homeowners moving in August alone – and 175,000 homeowners moving on Fridays over the year.

Friday’s appear to be a favorite amongst home movers with more than one if four (28%) selecting a Friday for their move.

Why the sudden spike in activity?

Chief Executive of the HomeOwners Alliance, Paul Higgins, says:

“Many homeowners like to move during the school summer holidays so their children can settle into their new place in time for the new academic year, which is the start of September across most of the UK.”

“It’s also a natural result of the Spring Bounce – when we see more people selling and buying homes. It can take until the summer to get through the home buying and selling process.”

Although moving on the busiest day of the year might sound a little chaotic, there’s plenty of things you can do to keep organised so things run as smoothly as possible.

We’ve compiled a list of 10 top things you can do for a simple, stress-free move which you can read here.
