Get your shoeboxes full of gifts at the ready, Operation Christmas Child is a GO!

We’re spreading the Christmas spirit a little early this year by taking part in Operation Christmas Child this November.

The Edward Mellor team are on a mission to collect as many shoeboxes full of gifts as they can to send to underprivileged children across the world this Christmas.

Organised by the Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse, the Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal encourages volunteers to fill empty shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and other useful items.

The boxes are then sent out to children in poverty that wouldn’t usually wake up to a gift at Christmas.

We’re using our 11 offices across Greater Manchester as drop off points for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.

We’ll be collecting boxes up until the drop off deadline on the 18th of November, so make sure you get started on your shoebox soon.

Together, we can bring the magic of Christmas back for boys and girls across the world living in difficult circumstances.

What is the Samaritan’s Purse UK?

Samaritan’s Purse UK is an international relief and development organisation that works through local churches to proclaim and demonstrate the love of God amongst communities in need (in countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia) across the world.

Since 1990, more than 168 million children in over 160 countries have benefited from the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child.

So, how do I get involved?

It’s really simple… and it all starts with an empty shoebox.

First off, you’ll need to find a medium-sized empty shoebox.

Then you’ll need to wrap the box and lid (separately) in some festive wrapping paper.

Next, you’ll need to download and print the appropriate boy/girl label to stick on your box.

Mark the correct age category and attach the label to the outside of your shoebox.

Step three is the fun part – filling your box with goodies! Pack your shoebox with a variety of new, exciting presents that will bring a big smile to their faces.

This could include a selection of fun toys, hygiene items and school supplies.

If possible, include one or two special items you know a child will love such as a doll, cuddly toy or deflated football with a pump.

A suggested donation of £5 is essential to cover project costs, including shipping.

This will enable a local church or group overseas to lead a safe, well-organised children’s event where your shoebox will be given to a child in need.

Give online at Follow Your Box and you can print out a barcode and place it inside your shoebox on top of the contents.

Alternatively, you can enclose cash or a cheque and place it in an envelope inside your shoebox on top of the contents.

You might also want to personalise your shoebox before you send it off. You could include a nice handwritten note and a photo of yourself, your group or your family.

The Final Step

Once you finished packing your box, you’ll then need to locate your nearest Edward Mellor branch which you can do here.

Finally, pop into our branch and drop off your shoebox ready for it to be collected on the 18th of November.
