If you are looking for a fun-filled activity to do with all the family, then the Mellor Open Gardens is a great way to get out of the house and spend a lovely afternoon exploring Mellor. With 19 stunning gardens spanning the length of the village, this event is definitely not one to miss!
The fundraiser is taking place to raise money for the historic Mellor Centre, which is partnering with Cancer Research UK. All proceeds will be shared equally between the two organisations.
The Mellor Centre and Mellor Primary School will be providing refreshments in the form of tea, coffee and cakes, as well as light lunch options. Parking and toilets are also available at these locations.
Furthermore, Mellor Church are hosting a beautiful floral display and will be opening its doors to visitors, so head along to check out the historical building with its views across the Cheshire countryside.
Marple is our home as much as yours, and we are proud to sponsor the Mellor Open Gardens, as well as more up-and-coming events, such as the Food & Drink Festival, Marple Carnival, and sports teams like Marple Rugby Club and Hawk Green Cricket Club. We aim to champion the community by continually investing in Marple and the surrounding areas, so join us in coming together and raising money for a fantastic cause!
On the day, the event will be priced at £12. Tickets will be available for £10 from the 28th April and can be collected from Marple Bridge Stores and Dutsons in Marple Bridge, as well as Littlewoods Butchers, Stationery Supplies, Hollins of Marple and the Cancer Research UK Shop within Marple.
Founded on the 4th of February 2002, Cancer Research UK is the result of The Cancer Research Campaign and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund merging to create one organisation unified in its aim to reduce the number of deaths from cancer.
Charitable donations almost entirely fund the organisation, and without it they wouldn’t be able to continue their life-saving work. This money helps pay for cutting-edge research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
Its mantra, ‘Together we are beating cancer,’ encapsulates the charity’s main goals to raise awareness about the disease and create a community for all those affected by cancer to come together and share their stories.
Originally built in 1880 to serve as a primary school for the children of Mellor, the Victorian building was repurposed by the Parish Church Council in 1995 into a thriving Community Centre.
Boasting expansive views across rolling hills and idyllic English countryside, the Mellor Centre is a beautiful setting for a range of events. Available for private, corporate and club hire, the Centre is host to a considerable number of cultural and social activities and remains at the heart of the Mellor community.
Although income is generated from private bookings, regular fundraising events are required to maintain the building and support future development plans.
